She reveals some pretty compromising information to Mustang before not finishing him off, assuming that he won’t come back and fuck her up. She was a real threat, and I think her early killing set the tone for the rest of the story: the Homunculi constantly underestimated the humans they were dealing with, and their plans blew up in their faces. To me it just felt like a cheap way to slap us awake after such a lackluster start to the story. I know it’s “faithful to the manga” but that doesn’t excuse the poor handling of the events leading up to her death IMO. I will admit that Lust’s death was visually pretty cool, but it’s annoying that that’s about the only thing this version of her is known for, and when it could easily have happened much later in the series. Her death also meant that we were left with a bunch of absolute non-threats for the rest of the show: Envy, who’s constantly humiliated and degraded (and whose CGI leviathan form is just dumb and awful to look at), evil Winnie the Pooh, a little boy, a mindless beefcake, Hitler with an eyepatch and Greed, who’s alright but isn’t even really a villain. But why so early on, and why in the goofiest way possible? Having her still die first but only later on in the series would have made the homunculi seem far more threatening and would allow her to actually prove herself as a more dangerous threat, but the short screen time that she has doesn’t allow for that, so that impact was already lost to begin with. I’ve heard the defense that it was more dramatic and impactful to have one of the more threatening homunculi die first, and Lust just lost the coin toss, and to an extent I agree. Then in episode 19 the writers decided to wack her with the Stupid Stick and make her borderline retarded for plot convenience. She was just overall the only one that seemed like a real threat to the heroes. She had the potential to be one of the late-game homunculi since she seemed the most competent out of the ones we’d been introduced to so far, and probably more highly ranked too. I watched Brotherhood before I watched the 2003 anime and even then I thought that Lust in Brotherhood was handled really poorly.
